If you have seen the picture that is attached to this post you might possibly be thinking that I have finally snapped, lost my mind, lost a bet or become color blind. Anyone who knows me knows that I am so much more than just an LSU alumni, but also a fairly rabid fan. (Typical LSU fan). I LOVE LSU. I have lots of purple and gold in my wardrobe, in my office, on my walls. I “love purple and live gold.” You would certainly NEVER catch me wearing an opposing teams colors, much less and SEC opponent such as the Florida Gators. Until today…
Well, let me just go ahead and tell you that I am in my right mind, I do not bet, and I think I am seeing colors just fine. Let me explain the picture. Rest easy, I am OK. I spent this morning with a friend and brother in Christ…Bill Tenney. I went over to do some yard work, but also to visit and pray. As most of you know Bill is in a serious fight against Esophageal cancer. Even as of this week, the doctors delivered him some more bad news that his cancer has spread to other lymph nodes and areas of his body.
After finishing the yard, Bill and I talked life, cancer, neighbors, family and of course as we usually do on visits….Florida Gator football. I immediately left Bill’s house and went on a search for some Florida Gator merchandise. Never thought I would do that 🙂
I knew I wanted to do this for several reasons. Let me share.
- More than anything, I hope it puts a smile on Bill’s face. BILL, THIS IS FOR YOU BUDDY. There has never been anything that has ever made me want cheer for the Gators and adorn myself in blue and orange Florida Gator gear, but for you Bill……I am on board and all in! GEAUX GATORS! There is nothing more binding and important than family. Bill is my brother in Christ and nothing, not even LSU football, comes before that!
- I hope those who read post will be motivated to remember to continually life Bill up in prayer before the Father. God says that we ought and are able to come before him with our needs. Please remember to pray for Bill and his family during this time. He desperately needs it. We pray that God heals Bill’s cancer for His glory. We pray that though this the world will see and know how wonderfully awesome is our God.
- I hope that you will be reminded that our God is good no matter the circumstance and season of life. He is in control and nothing is wasted. I had the opportunity to share Bill’s story with a man in his neighborhood this morning. This led to an opportunity for me to blatantly and clearly share the fantastic hope, good news and and love we have in the gospel of Jesus Christ our Lord. I look for him to be at church on Sunday morning. This man did not just show up by accident. God is in control and nothing is wasted, not even our pain and suffering. Even in the rough seasons of our life, we have opportunity for ministry and to bring God glory. We are reminded by Paul’s words to the Romans, “and we know that for those who love God ALL THINGS work together for good, for those that are called according to his purpose.” ALL THINGS MEANS ALL THINGS. Paul also reminded the Corinthian church, “For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,..” We know that our problems and suffering are light and momentary compared to the magnitude and power of our God in Christ Jesus.
- Finally, I hope that you will be reminded of those around us that our in need physically, emotionally, financially, and spiritually. Pray for them. Pray that God will use you in REAL ways to bring restoration and healing to their lives. Let’s live outside of ourselves and be servants like Jesus. Let’s love as Jesus loved.
See you Sunday
GEAUX GATORS and GEAUX BILL TENNEY !
